Using xG and xA to decide a team for #FPL

Firstly I’d like to introduce myself, I’m FPL Vader and have an interest in statistics and FPL. Through using multiple resources I’ve found a way in which I believe I can find the best team possible per week and compete with the OddsOnFPL side. Through using expected goals and assists I believe I can find players who will score heavily and produce the goods with regularity.

In investigating the data I have found value in players who others may not have, and in doing so compiled the data into spreadsheets for your use! Find below the ranking of players by position based on their xG and xA per 90 minutes.

The data was taken from understat.com and will help you to choose your side in Fantasy Football for the coming season. It is an alternative way of looking at the stats and will help you in deciding who to pick.

Forwards:

Midfielders:

Defenders:

Some interesting insights which I have taken from these stats are:

-Mendy more likely to get a return than Aguero is to score a goal, 6.0m v 11.0m, who do you think is more valuable?

-Bednarek might be an absolute steal this week (if he plays), he’s only a 4.0m defender with a massive upside.

-Tottenham are a viable option in FPL. Especially Ben Davies.

Based off of the above I’d like to provide a team which can compete with the OddsOnFPL team and provides you an alternative based off of xG and xA.

The starting team would be a 5-3-2, with Salah captaining the side. On the bench, Hudson Odoi, Stephens and Bonatini would provide support, with the bench listed as before.

[Total: 7    Average: 3.4/5]

This is great, but would be great if it could easily be seen how many minutes a player has played last season. Many of the players are ruled out since they rarely play more than 20-30 minutes
